patrol officers on the streets to help out the short staffed oakland police department. terry mcsweeney is at the substation to tell us how the first night went. >> reporter: this is where chp officers reported for duty last night. it is having an impact, a number of arrests, several cars impounded by chp officers on the streets of oakland. when the officers reported at 7:00 last night it took 30 minutes before there was a violent crime. look at video of the grocery outlet on 2900 broadway a man with a gun robbed the place customers were inside at the time, a customer called in that crime that is what police are hoping for, a lot of cooperation from citizens. that crime happened one day after east oakland businessman wilbur bartley was shot and killed at his store marcus

attacked the agent he punched and kicked him several times and knocked at jen not ground. as soon as station agent stood back up the suspect continued the assault. >> reporter: here's a good look at him, police say probably 25 to 30, about six feet tall, brown hair. this happened a month ago october 10th. police are just now releasing the video. muni is hoping someone who sees the video will remember the maybe remember being there or maybe someone will recognize this man. whatever the case, they are hoping that someone will call police and help them solve this, help them find this guy. the station agent has been released from the hospital, he is still receiving medical treatment, still not 100% okay, so he hasn't been able to return to work. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. happening now operation impact underway in oakland chp units in the city to help

increase police presence and assist officers on patrols chp will provide help to oakland two days a week at no cost to the city last year the chp helped oakland police in an anti-gang operation funded with federal grants. the san mateo county sheriff's office asking for the public's help to track down two men believed to have stolen more than $700 from a -- more than $7,000 from a 7-eleven store. the men ended the store monday one distracted the cashier while his accomplice went to the rear office and stole a bag of cash. several hours later the cashier realized the money was gone. it appears support for a measure that would abolish the death penalty gaining momentum. new poll finds 45% of likely voters are in favor of prop 30 four up three points from

september, 38% against replacing capital punishment with life in prison without parole, 17% undecided. more than 50% is need ford the measure to pass. four days until election day, the release of this morning's october jobs report, could impact the race for president. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom with how the romney and obama camps are likely to spin today's report and who it is going to be better for. >> reporter: hard to say turned out to be a grey area unemployment ticked up to 7.9%, 171,000 new jobs were added. romney just issued a statement that the october report is a sad reminder that the economy is still at a standstill. the president hasn't spoken out yet about the report, surely he can spin the fact that unemployment is still under 8%. one expert says voters will likely shrug that number off. it does mean president obama faces voters with the highest unemployment rate of any
